As chairman of the Macmillan Haydock Park
Raceday committee, I am incredibly proud of
our efforts in organising the second annual
Macmillan Haydock Park Raceday, where, this
year, we raised over £124,000 for Macmillan
Cancer Support. We extend our heartfelt
gratitude to our generous guests for their
contributions, which will provide essential
support to people living with cancer in
the North West and throughout the UK.
Nick Bannister, Chairman of the Macmillan
Haydock Park Raceday Committee
Jack's older brother Tom was diagnosed
with bowel cancer at just 36 years old
and received support from Macmillan until
he sadly passed away earlier this year.
Inspired by his brother and the care he
received, Jack challenged himself to run
an incredible 26 marathons in 26 weeks
to raise over £75,000 for Macmillan.
As the afternoon progressed, guests
were treated to seven races and
fantastic entertainment throughout.
Tables took part in a champagne
raffle, grand prize draw and had the
opportunity to bid on over twentyfive
silent and live auction items
sourced by our wonderful committee,
guests, and friends of Macmillan.
And as the totals were tallied, it was
announced that a fantastic £62,080 was
raised on the day, which when matched
meant that we had raised over £124,000.
A truly staggering amount for an event
still in its infancy. This funding is much
needed in the region. In the North West,
people with cancer are currently facing an
increasingly complex set of challenges.
With special thanks to Haydock Park
Committee members Nick Bannister,
Mouse Barlow, Rosie Curran, Chris Clay,
Graham Dagnall, Gary Middlebrook
and Simon Raine, The Haydock Park
Racecourse staff, the Betfred team and all
who attended for their generous support.
