Location: Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport
Why Stockport? Stockport is one of the five most
polarised populations in England in terms of health
and wealth, causing significant health inequalities,
and services in an area of Greater Manchester with
the oldest age profile. People diagnosed with cancer
in Stockport will often have to visit several sites
across Greater Manchester for treatment, which has
a detrimental impact on their quality of life. Access to
a cancer support service could vastly improve their
patient experience and the support they receive.
The plan:
• The new information and support centre will create
a dedicated space for people within the hospital
to receive support and care, meaning they can
receive more of their treatment in one place.
• The build will include an extension at the front,
and a new accessible entrance, information
and seating area to welcome patients in and
provide a non-clinical space for people when
they are visiting the hospital for appointments.
STOCKPORT
• The centre will also include two quiet rooms
with a secondary exit for privacy and dignity
and a therapy room and a larger meeting
space for support group meetings.
• Staff office space will mean that specialist
teams are able to collaborate on site and
be on hand for support and advice.
