Location: York Hospital
Why York? Following a full closure during the
pandemic, the centre has now re-opened, but due
to reduced capacity in the centre, this is currently
only two days per week, while demand for the
service has doubled. The current layout of the
centre means that there is minimal private space
and little room for larger support groups to meet.
The plan:
A total redesign, expanding the front of the
centre, creating a warm, well signposted
reception area with kitchen facilities and seating
spaces for patients and families to use.
• Small and larger meeting spaces will allow the centre
to adapt to every supporter need - from having
difficult individual conversations and calming therapy
rooms, to larger spaces for support group meetings.
YORK
• Incorporated staff office spaces will allow
professionals to work collaboratively on site.
• A newly designed, fully accessible.
garden and a warmed pod for additional
meeting and seating in all weathers.
• The style and décor will be a welcome, nonclinical contrast
to the surrounding hospital.
Reach: This centre will provide support to the
800,000 people living in and around York, North
Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale
Cost: £2.1million
